Asupara Bacon (Asparagus Bacon)
Sorry for my very very long absence from the blog. My new job has later hours so I get home later and it’s been hard for me to muster up energy to cook after getting home. However, Hurricane Sandy gave me and Emilie the perfect opportunity to spend some time in the kitchen.
Emilie introduced me to the amazing-ness that is Asupara Bacon – a Japanese izakaya staple. You just need three ingredients and it takes less than 15 minutes to make. It’s a great side! Emilie made cauliflower soup and it complemented it perfectly!
Ingredient:
a bunch of asparagus
8 pieces of bacon
black pepper
Directions:
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Dump in trimmed asparagus (I used the super thin ones so I only took off about an inch off the thick end) for about 30 seconds.
Drain the asparagus in a strainer and immediately put cold water over it to stop the cooking process.
Take about 5-6 thin asparagus together and wrap bacon around it. If you’re using thicker asparagus, you may have to do it in bunches of 3-4.
Heat a large pan over medium-high heat. Carefully put bacon wrapped asparagus in the pan and heat until bacon is cooked through (or crispy, as I like it!) Sprinkle a dash of black pepper.
And that’s it!
And here’s a pic of Emilie’s cauliflower soup. We put bacon bits on top ;)
