Black Iris – somewhere in brooklyn…
The other day, I met my friend Kim somewhere in Brooklyn for dinner. I don’t mean to sound like a Manhattan snob or anything but I feel like Brooklyn neighborhoods are really small and change quickly. And have long names. And the G never runs.
Kim told me to be at the very front of the G train so I walked all the way down to the platform only to discover that the train actually STOPS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TRACKS. I mean, really, who does that?! So then I had to run back to the middle of the platform to get on the train. Geez. Okay, enough complaining.
I did have a lovely time exploring BK though but mostly because I was driven everywhere.
We went to one of Kim’s favorite Middle Eastern restaurants – Black Iris. The food is delicious, prices reasonable, and service great! A++
We started with the Lentil and Bulgur described as “cracked wheat and green lentil beans sautéed with fried onions, served with cucumber yogurt”.
I’ve been wanting to try bulgur for a while now so this was the perfect opportunity! The dish was DELICIOUS although I wasn’t crazy about the cucumber yogurt! The lentils and bulgur were pretty mild but paired with the salty fried onions, it was a match made in heaven.
I then took fuzzy pictures of my falafel that I ordered. You get four falafels, salad, lots of babaganoush (or hummus) and a ginormous pita all for about… $8? I liked Kim’s hummus better than my babaganoush so if you ever figure out where this restaurant is, I recommend you get that.
Yum! Again, the service was really great so even though my babaganoush was a little disappointing, I highly recommend going there.
