ChikaLicious
A few weeks/months ago (I have no idea) Sarah and I went to a great non-profit event to benefit teen girls and won a raffle where we got a $50 gift certificate to ChikaLicious. My friend Brad has raved about this place so I was psyched to finally make an appearance.
Unfortunately, when we got there, we found out that it’s only open from Thursdays to Sundays
They have a dessert bar across the street though so we settled for that.
It’s really tiny with limited seating and you just go up to the counter and order what you want:
Sarah chose the chocolate mousse cake:
It was delicious! It was rich in flavor but light in texture. It also had this great graham cracker-like crust. Yum!
I ordered the petit fours but really, what they should have called it is “tiny-pieces-of-cake-that’s-called-petit-fours-but-isn’t-actually-coated-in-frosting-like-Shion-had-hoped.” Still delicious though!
It had a piece of the mousse cake, red velvet cake, an apple cake, green tea with marmalade and my favorite – strawberry shortcake.
Sarah and I both liked the strawberry shortcake the best. The cakes were nice and light and not too sweet – very Japanese! The chef/owner is actually Japanese and her name is Chika, hence the name ChikaLicious.
When I lived in Japan, I would often get strawberry shortcake and haven’t had anything like it in the States until ChikaLicious. I will definitely have to come back and get one for my dad…
Just to show you the size of these petit fours…
…the above picture is half of the cake since Sarah and I split all of them. They were Barbie-portioned, I would say.
I definitely recommend stopping by and getting the strawberry shortcake! I also highly recommend buying me a piece when you stop by
